Your skills
A new calming or coping skill is added each module: a small library you build and keep, becoming more automatic over time.
The Guided program · for misophonia
A coach-guided skills program for misophonia (strong reactions of anger, disgust, or anxiety to specific sounds), informed by CBT principles and an evolving condition-specific evidence base, translated from the clinical protocol so you can work through it at your own pace, with a coach reading your check-ins each week and writing back. The reaction is understood by many clinicians as a learned, automatic response, not a character defect, and it can change.
Early evidence: condition-specific sourcing still in progress. A note on that evidence page: misophonia-specific sourcing is still being finalized there; the program draws on the same CBT approach used for related conditions, but citations specific to misophonia aren’t complete yet.
What “Guided” means
The work is strongest when a coach stays involved, so that’s how Kodama runs it: a program with someone on the other end. Every module follows the same rhythm.
One module at a time. Each builds on the last, so the order matters, but the pace is yours. A module can take a week, or longer.
A few minutes looking back at the week: the triggers you met, what helped, and what was harder. Your answers are saved securely in Practice Better.
They reflect what you reported, reinforce the program’s built-in guidance, and point you to the material that fits, without controlling your pace or changing the program around an individual trigger or relationship.
Three threads
Rather than starting over each week, three threads carry through the whole program and grow as you go.
A new calming or coping skill is added each module: a small library you build and keep, becoming more automatic over time.
A simple note of the sounds you dealt with, who made them, where you were, and how you responded. The aim isn’t to score the person or sound but to notice the pattern.
A few minutes looking back at the week. Your coach reads the saved answers and writes back.
The modules
Each module targets a specific part of the pattern (understanding, arousal, thoughts, avoidance, and relationships) and builds toward meeting triggers again, gradually and on your terms.
Part 01
Getting oriented: what misophonia is, how the conditioned chain works, and where you have the most leverage to change it.
What the program asks, whether now is the time, and your particular pattern of triggers.
What’s actually happening (a conditioned alarm, not a character flaw), and your first tool, the daily trigger note.
The chain between a sound and the reaction it sets off, and where you can break in.
Part 02
Bringing the physical alarm down and answering the blame and mind-reading that turn a sound into an attack.
Progressive muscle relaxation and slow breathing, to bring the physical alarm down before the trigger even arrives.
Catching the blame and mind-reading that turn a sound into an attack, and answering them with evidence.
Part 03
Controlled, graded contact with trigger sounds and situations, planned by you, never sprung on you.
The first deliberate sessions with recorded trigger sounds: controlled, on purpose, staying until the wave crests and comes down.
Graded steps back into real trigger situations and relationships, each one planned, each one yours.
Part 04
The beliefs underneath, the hardest hours, and a portable plan for future wobbles.
Following the hot thoughts down to the belief beneath them, and planning for the moments you know are coming.
Everything made portable, and your personal wobble plan: what makes a wobble a bad week instead of a relapse.
Included in the program
The reading is only one part of the program. Trigger examples, measurement, and follow-up support the work from beginning to end.
Carefully chosen examples of common trigger patterns are introduced inside the relevant modules. They are used gradually and deliberately, not offered as an unrestricted public library.
Introduced inside the programBrief weekly check-ins and fuller midpoint and final measures help you see change clearly. Your coach can reflect the patterns shown in your responses.
Read by your coachFollow-up check-ins help you maintain the gains, use your wobble plan early, and reconnect with support before a difficult stretch grows.
Included in the programBefore you start
If yours isn’t here, the enrollment process answers most of it, and your coach can point you to the relevant program guidance.
Most people take about a week per module, so the full arc is usually a bit over two months, but the pace is yours, and there is no falling behind. Weekly coach guidance is included for a three-month guided period (room to spare at the typical pace), and if life intervenes, you can ask for an extension. Your module materials stay available for twelve months.
A trained coach. They read what you report and write back, reflecting the program’s guidance, helping you notice patterns, and pointing you to the material that fits what you shared.
No. The aim is to reduce the automatic alarm and widen your ability to choose what you do next. A trigger may remain noticeable without controlling your body, relationships, or day.
Meeting triggers again is controlled and graded: you start with recordings you control, never live situations sprung on you, and the pacing guidance is built into each module, with clear signals for when to stay at a level, step down, pause, or message your coach. Wobbles are expected and planned for; working a step lower for a while is the protocol working, not a failure.
That is common in misophonia and does not mean the relationship is bad or that you are cruel. The program separates the conditioned reaction from the person and includes tools for real trigger situations and relationships.
You will not begin the program. Your payment is refunded in full, and Kodama points you toward the kind of care that is more appropriate: a person, not another unsuitable program.
Recovery isn’t a straight line. Good weeks and flat weeks are both normal, and a wobble is information, not failure. The program ends with your own wobble plan: what makes a wobble a bad week instead of a relapse.
