Partners and spouses
Often the person most involved in day-to-day accommodating, and often carrying the most of it without much recognition.
The Guided program · Loved Ones
A six-module program for the partner, spouse, parent, or close relative of someone living with a sound-sensitivity condition. It helps you tell the difference between comforting them and automatically accommodating their avoidance, while taking your own worry, guilt, and exhaustion seriously as something worth its own care.
What “Guided” means
This kind of support is strongest when a coach stays involved, so that’s how Kodama runs it: a program with someone on the other end. Every module follows the same rhythm.
One module at a time, about 20–30 minutes each. Each builds on the last, but the pace is yours; a module can take a week, or longer.
A few honest sentences about how it’s going, plus your accommodation log. Saved securely in Practice Better.
They read it before your next module, keeping the program shaped to you, and to your particular relationship.
Who this is for
Loved Ones is its own program, not a linked add-on to someone else’s care. You enroll with your own account, your own consent, and your own coach correspondence.
Often the person most involved in day-to-day accommodating, and often carrying the most of it without much recognition.
The program’s content applies just as directly outside a couple relationship; nothing here assumes a particular kind of family.
Siblings and other close family are welcome too. What matters is that you’re someone shaping your responses around their condition.
The modules
Each module builds toward the same shift: from automatically accommodating to deliberately, warmly supporting, while taking your own wellbeing seriously along the way.
Part 01
Getting oriented: what the program asks of you, and what’s genuinely happening in their body.
What the program asks, whether now is the time, and why a program like this exists, without blame.
What’s actually happening in their body, what your response does, and validation versus accommodation.
Part 02
Naming your own patterns, then practicing a different, more deliberate way to support.
What accommodation actually looks like, and your own log and inventory begin.
Five practiced scripts, the coordinate-don’t-improvise rule, and a collaborative fading plan.
Part 03
Your own wellbeing as a direct treatment target, and a plan for keeping the change going.
Naming guilt, resentment, and exhaustion as normal, and a wellbeing check-in of your own.
Protecting the relationship, a household agreement, closing measures, and what “still hard” can mean.
Before you start
If yours isn’t here, the Getting ready module answers most of it, and your coach answers the rest.
No. Loved Ones enrolls independently, with its own account. You can start this whether or not they’re enrolled anywhere, or even open to it yet.
No. Your record is your own, with its own confidentiality boundary, the same as theirs, if they have one. Nothing you write is visible to them unless you choose to share it directly.
Most people take a week or so per module, at 20–30 minutes a module, lighter than Kodama’s primary patient programs, on purpose. The pace is yours, and nothing expires.
No, the opposite. The goal is never less support, only a different kind: validating what’s real without automatically accommodating the avoidance. Any change to what you accommodate is planned together, never sprung on them.
Module 5 names that directly. Individual therapy or a caregiver support group are reasonable next steps, and the program stays open; you can return to it any time.
